Big Brother 8

Big Brother 8 aired on July 5, 2007, on the CBS network with the finale ending on September 18, 2007.

Season 8 was slightly different than the other seasons of Big Brother where 11 house guests entered the house while 3 other house guests watched via the spy screen in the HOH room. Dick, Jessica and Dustin were able to spy on the other house guests as they got to know each other. The separation was part of this season’s twist where 3 groups of enemies were pitted against one another. The twist revealed that Dick and his daughter Daniele were estranged, Jessica and Carol were former best friends, and Joe and Dustin were ex-boyfriends.

The 11 house guests were then put into pairs for the first HOH competition. The pairs consisted of Eric & Kail, Jameka & Joe, Jen & Zach, Mike & Daniele, and Amber & Carol. With an odd number of house guests, one had to sit out the first HOH competition which was Nick. This first HOH competition was called “Mushroom Madness” where the pairs were split up, one would answer true/false questions and the other sat on a mushroom top that spun faster and faster for each wrong answer their partner gave. Eric and Kail successfully answered the most questions right and stayed on their mushroom the longest, winning the first HOH competition. Following the first HOH competition the 11 house guest were told that the 3 house guests up in the HOH could not be eliminated the first week. In addition to not being in the running for eviction the first week the house guests learned that the 3 house guests in the HOH room were going to decide which house guest, Kail or Eric would become the head of household. Dick, Jessica and Dustin all decided that Kail would become the first HOH as she was the one to ride and stay on top of the mushroom. As the 11 house guests re-entered the house from the backyard, the other 3 house guests came down from the HOH room to introduce themselves. At the end of the first episode the viewing public learned that Eric had been chosen to be America’s Player, who would attempt to complete tasks chosen by the viewers through a voting system.
