Big Brother 3

Big Brother 3 aired on the CBS network for 32 episodes during the summer of 2002, from July 10 to September 25.

Season 3 was the first season that coined the big brother phrase “Expect the Unexpected” where for the first time an evicted house guest would be allowed to return to the house by a group vote. This season was also the first introduction to the power of veto. This twist allowed the house guests to compete for a weekly power of veto competition where the winner had the power to veto the HOH’s nominations. However, during this season the power of veto winner was not able to use it on themselves until the introduction of the Golden Power of Veto. This was also the first and only big brother season to have each evicted house guest vote for which of the final two should win the half million dollar prize. The exception in season two was when Justin was expelled from the house he was not able to vote.

The first four evicted house guests (Eric, Amy, Tonya, and Lori) were asked how much of the half a million dollar grand prize would they give up for a chance to return to the big brother house. All of the house guests but Lori said that they would give up half of the prize money. Lori said that she was only willing to give up $50,000 of the $500,000, as a result she was eliminated from the competition. The three remaining house guests were then asked of the remaining days left in the game how many would they be willing to eat PB&J. Amy and Eric said that they would eat PB&J for the remained of the days left in the house. Tonya asked that she would eat PB&J for half of the amount of days left, therefore she was eliminated. The remaining house guests still in the big brother house then had a chance to vote on whether they wanted Amy or Eric to return. The majority vote went to Amy and she re-entered the big brother house. The other house guests planned to immediately have her evicted again the following week, however Amy won HOH.

The power of veto rules for this season was different in that the winner was not able to use it on themselves, until the Final week where the Golden Power of Veto was introduced. When Amy and Marcellas were nominated for eviction by Jason, Marcellas won the power of veto but did not use it as he assumed he had a deal with Danielle. Danielle broke her promise with Marcellas and cast her vote to evict him. The votes ended up in a 1-1 tie, and Jason the HOH broke the tie by evicting Marcellas. Jase told Marcellas you “should have used the veto”. This move has been known as one of the worst moves in big brother history. Even 4 years later when they both appeared on Big Brother 7 All-Stars, Marcellas still found it hard to talk to Danielle. They eventually made up and put the past behind themselves.

All of the house guests except Lori, Jason and Danielle were shown completely nude on the live feeds. Also Chiara, Lisa and Tonya applied peanut butter to their private parts to make “peanut butter bikinis”.
