Big Brother 10 was the second season during the same year due to the 2007-08 Writers Guild of America strike. The season was advertised as “Back to the Basics” in terms of both the production team and CBS. Getting back to the basics CBS brought back the format of the live audiences for the live eviction Thursday episodes (Not featured since BB1), and they chose 13 strangers (Not done since BB3) to enter the big brother house.

Prior to the airing of the premiere, the first CBS commercials revealed 7 of the house guests and the remaining 6 were revealed on July 8th when the official website was unveiled. The commercials hyped this seasons cast to be very diverse in background and age.

Week 1 – Upon entering the big brother house, the house guests voted for each other on first impressions and Jerry received four votes making him the first Head of Household (HOH). As the HOH Jerry was tasked with nominating 2 house guests for eviction; he nominated Renny & Jessie. In the Power of Veto competition Jessie won the POV and used it to save himself. Jerry then nominated a replacement nominee, Brian. During the first food competition called “Buggin Out” Jessie, Angie, Steve, Renny, Memphis, Dan and Michelle all won food for the week. There was also a bonus prize (1969 Chevy Camaro) during the food competition which Memphis won. In the power of veto competition called “Sweet Dreams, Honey” the house guests had to go into the backyard where there was a giant bed covered in pillows and a pool full of honey. The house guest needed to rip open the pillows and match the colour of their pyjamas to find teddy bears. They then had to jump into the pool of honey and put the teddy bears in jars. The first house guest to find and put all 5 teddy bears in their jar was Jessie. Brian was the first house guest evicted from the big brother house by a vote of 9-1.

Week 2 – In this week’s HOH competition called “Majority Rules” the house guests had to answer questions about which house guest they thought would adhere to specific situations. The house guests needed to answer how they thought the majority would answer, where the minority from each round was eliminated. Love, Steven.” This incident caused a stir in the house creating arguments and Jerry calling Memphis a “Womanizer.” Memphis took huge offense to this comment. Julie Chen told the viewing public that the banner had nothing to do with Big Brother but did not specify what it actually said. On day 22, the house guest felt the effects of a 5.4 magnitude earthquake where there was luckily no damage or injury to the house or house guests.
