Big Brother 28 Week 11 in Review: Drew Holds the Last Vote

Seven houseguests started the week and four are left. The double eviction took Barrett and Yash on Thursday night, Melody went on Monday while the feeds were down, and the last vote before the final three belongs to Drew. Week 10 ended with the Icons deciding which newbie survived. Week 11 ends with Drew deciding which Icon does.

• Evicted Thursday: Barrett, 3–1, then Yash, 2–1, in the double eviction.
• Head of Household: Devens, his second of the season.
• Nominees: Drew and Melody.
• Veto: Drew, used on himself. Taylor went up in his place.
• Evicted Monday: Melody, on Devens’ tiebreak after a 1–1 vote. The fifth juror.
• Final four Head of Household: Taylor. She nominated Drew and Dee.
• Final veto: Drew. Devens goes up beside Dee, and Drew casts the only vote.
• The jury: Lala, Angela, Barrett, Yash and Melody.

Thursday: Melody wins twice, Barrett and Yash go

Melody won the last Blockbuster of the season, which left Barrett and Taylor to face the vote. Barrett went 3–1, with Melody the only vote to keep him. Then she won Head of Household in the second half of the night and nominated Devens and Dee. Devens won the veto and took himself off, Melody named Yash, and Yash went 2–1. Taylor was the one vote to keep him.

Drew summed up the night the next afternoon: “And Melody has won nothing, and just won two back-to-back.” In the kitchen afterwards Melody told Drew she wished she had more time as Head of Household, for “a letter, a nicer bed, a nicer shower… music!” Then: “I told you guys I could do it and you all kept doubting me.”

Dee went to the gym and talked it through with the cameras, still shaking.

Dee: “Make it make sense, guys. How are both of us still in this game?”
Dee: “I just know Angela’s gonna have a party tonight.”

In the same few minutes she called Devens her ride or die and told the cameras exactly when that ends: “the only time that I will cut him, if I win that Final 3, that’s when I will cut Devens.”

Later that night production brought out a $10,000 button, and the house was never told who ended up with the money. It was Devens. He had told the room he had seen every Indiana Jones movie and knew nothing good comes from pushing buttons. At 10:27pm he was in the bathroom with another button, hugging it, kissing it and announcing “Kids ain’t cheap!” The rest of the house spent the week guessing.

Friday: Devens finds out he has to nominate

Devens won Head of Household overnight, with the feeds down for most of it, and the house slept until the afternoon.

Devens: “Hey, good morning. 1:33.”
Taylor: “Yard’s open.”
Devens: “Things just keep looking up.”

Then he found out he was nominating that day: “No, I didn’t even realize I had to nominate people. I thought I was off the hook.” The house had been told that only the Head of Household and the veto holder were safe this week, and nothing else. He had asked about it the night before and been told “I think you’ll get more clarity in the morning.”

Drew and Dee both refused to volunteer for the block, ten minutes apart. Dee kept hers short: “I didn’t budge, to make it easier on you.” Drew took eleven minutes in the HOH room and finished by offering collateral.

Drew: “So that’s why I’m going to ransom you. I’m going to give you the letter from my mom, and my bracelet and my necklace.”
Devens: “Don’t do that. Your stuff’s not welcome in here. This is my room.”
Drew: “Dude, that’s what I’m gonna do. Straight up.”
Devens: “I’ll start wearing it.”

What Devens had told Dee a few minutes earlier, and had not told Drew: “I really do want to keep Drew. If you win veto, pull him off. And if I win veto, I’ll pull him off.” His problem was Melody. Leave Drew off the block and Drew could win the veto, save her, and force Dee up as the replacement. Devens, to Drew: “It’s the melody of it all, bro.”

Drew and Melody went up. Drew’s read on why: “I think because we’re the last duo.” Melody took it her own way: “You can’t kill me. I’m not f—ing leaving.”

Afterwards Devens stood on the upper deck and talked to the cameras at length. At one point: “the last thing I want to do is turn on my closest ally and good friend Dee and yet, she’s the person most likely to beat me in a final two.” He can’t play in the next Head of Household, and he said he needs Dee to get there at all.

Saturday: two promises, one veto

Dee and Devens started the morning in the backyard counting how close they are.

Dee: “Devens, we’re so close. It has to be you or me.”
Devens: “It’s crazy, Dee. No, I could cry.”

They were already planning the phone call afterwards: “We’d have to FaceTime Jeff Probst.” Then Dee went and promised the veto to both nominees, seventeen minutes apart. To Melody at 10:21am: “Just know that I’m thinking, if I win this veto, to use it on you. But do not tell them.” To Drew at 10:38am: “I swear. And I’m going to gun for it, too.”

She never had to keep either one. Drew won the veto, and came out of it sure he had lost: “I thought I lost. I thought I got zero.” Melody went to the bedroom and cried: “I look like f—ing Spongebob running around a f—ing mummy, bro. This is not the move.” Devens went straight to Taylor: “you’ll be safe, I’m trying to get rid of Melody.”

By evening the game had stopped and the pranks had started. Dee hid Drew’s hairbrush in the cupholder of a pool float (“It was gone for f—ing 3 weeks Dee”), and Drew answered by dragging her mattress into the have-not room and writing RIP on her bed in M&Ms.

Just before midnight the vote was settled in the bathroom. With Taylor expected to go up, Drew and Dee were the only two votes, and Drew had already told Devens where he stood: “I told him, I said, listen, like, you know, I can’t vote Melody out. He’s like, yeah. He’s like, I’m going to be breaking the tie.” That left it with Dee, and she agreed to it. Drew, on Melody: “She still thinks it’s up in the air. She thinks that you like her more than Taylor. So she’s like, maybe she’ll save me.”

Two doors away, in the pod room:

Taylor: “He loves you, though.”
Melody: “Not enough to use that damn veto on me.”

Later, still in the pod room, Taylor was working on turning the flirtmance into a date.

Taylor: “He don’t have your ass in a helicopter.”
Melody: “With what damn money?”
Taylor: “The $10,000 he just got for pressing that f—ing button.”

Taylor was sure Drew had the money, and Devens too. Only the Devens half was right. She had talked herself out of pressing her own button in case it came with a penalty. “I should have pressed that b—-tch, bro.”

Sunday: waiting on a Pharaoh nobody explained

Julie had announced a Pharaoh’s curse on double eviction night. Nobody in the house was ever told on the feeds what it did, and the house spent Sunday waiting for it.

In the morning Drew and Dee went back over the season and agreed the house had kept exactly one secret. Dee: “The only secret is who ate the hot dog.”

Melody, to Drew at 1:45pm: “I just feel like I’m on the brink of a panic attack. I don’t want to leave.” Drew told her she was the only one who wanted him in the final: “no one wants to take me to the end except you.”

At 2pm Dee sat down with Melody, fourteen hours after agreeing with Drew that Melody was the one going, and said this:

Dee: “Devens is not somebody I could take to the end. He has a great resume. And I also want to be at the end with just women because the boys club has pissed me off for four weeks now.”

That night Melody told Drew, “I legit would have gone insane if you weren’t here.” Drew: “You’re definitely my best friend that I met here.” At 11pm Dee was playing pool by herself and worrying out loud: “I’m nervous because I don’t know what’s gonna happen with the pharaoh’s curse.”

Monday: Melody goes, and Taylor wins the one that counts

The veto ceremony turned into the eviction. The feeds went down for about three hours and came back with Melody gone. Drew had used the veto on himself, Devens named Taylor as the replacement, and Drew and Dee were the only two votes. They split 1–1: Drew voted to evict Taylor, Dee voted to evict Melody, and Devens broke the tie. Melody became the fifth juror. All of it happened behind the blackout.

The same afternoon Taylor won the final four Head of Household, a two-round puzzle Devens could not play in. Drew had liked his chances: “Dude, I felt so good when they said it was a puzzle today. I was like, Devens isn’t playing. I was like, this should be mine.” Then the final round came down to him and Taylor. “And then it’s Taylor and Drew. Oh, f—ing God.”

Four minutes after she won it, Dee and Devens were alone upstairs picking their third.

Devens: “Nominations don’t matter at all.”
Dee: “We just have to win veto. That solidifies it — you and me, we take—”
Devens: “You, me and Taylor.”
Dee: “We take Taylor.”

If either of them won the veto, Drew was going. At 6:09pm Devens was upstairs with Drew: “I fought pretty hard to keep Drew around. A couple of times.” Drew’s read on the jury, in the same conversation: “I think we both get sweeped by the girls. Like, hardcore. Sweeped.”

Taylor nominated Drew and Dee, and Dee cooked what she called the final four dinner.

Drew: “are you cooking it with love?”
Dee: “yeah.”
Drew: “Why does it look like hate?”

Tuesday: Drew wins the veto, and with it the only vote

Drew won the final veto. At final four that means he comes off the block, Devens goes up beside Dee, and Drew casts the only vote. He took it hard. Later, to Dee, he called it a telenovela, the kid in the house choosing between his dad and his big sister.

Devens opened his pitch at 6:16pm: “Do you want me to cry and lay my head in your lap, just to give you a sense of normalcy?” Then the actual argument.

Devens: “I love Dee, but I’m not going to the end with someone I know I’m going to lose to.”
Drew: “All three of the Icons have never proven to me that they’re working with me.”

Devens also told him Dee had been saying she would take Devens to the end over him. Drew: “Wait, what?” And near the end: “We all fought our ass off to get the worst decision of the whole season.”

Taylor made the other case at 8:45pm: “do you wanna win or do you wanna take 2nd place?” And: “who the f— signs up for 2nd place?”

Dee’s contribution to the evening was lighter. She asked Drew if he was excited to break a heart. “A little bit,” he said. “I would rather be doing it than receiving it.” Then she suggested he finish his decision with “the tribe has spoken.” Drew: “I’m definitely doing it.”

Alone with the cameras at 11pm, Dee said what she plans to do if she goes: “I will be lying in the jury and I’m going to love doing it.”

Wednesday: Drew says his mind is made up

In the bathroom at 11:18am Drew told Dee the decision was already made: “my mind has been made up even before I won the veto.” Dee made her case anyway.

Dee: “you will lose if you’re next to Devens.”
Drew: “Anybody will. We all lose next to Devens.”

Then she went soft on him: “Unfortunately, fortunately, the little weasel has made his way into my heart.” She told him she is definitely having three kids now. Drew suggested she name one of them Andres.

The button came up again, with Devens elsewhere. Drew said he didn’t take the $10,000. Dee: “No, I didn’t even press the damn button.” Drew: “It’s got to be Devens or Taylor.”

At 1:22pm Taylor was up in the HOH room coaching Dee on the pitch: “You’re going to lose. You’re signing up for second place.” Then: “So I’m telling you what you can say.”

Devens had nothing left to do and said so: “my life’s on the line. I should be playing the game, and there’s nothing to do.” In the gym with Dee he compared the two people already in the final three: “He was on the block five times and saved himself every time. She was on the block five times and no one ever cared enough to vote her out.” Then he tried out his vampire accent, and Dee shut it down: “You don’t sound like a vampire… You sound like Borat.”

Drew’s worry by evening was how it would look from the jury: “I know the jury is going to be like, oh, here we go. Drew does what Devens wants again.” Devens, to the cameras at 8:20pm, had worked out the other half of the problem: “I have to make it very clear he would never get my vote against Dee. Because then it’s too tempting to cut me.” At 9:15pm Dee gave Drew the only thing she had left to offer: “you have my word I am taking you to the end.”

What the Wall says about Week 11

Readers rate every houseguest out of ten on the OBB Wall, every day. Week 11 drew 1,170 ballots, down 6 percent on Week 10 and the quietest week of the season. Last week the split was Icons against newbies. This week it split differently.

Of the seven who started the week, the three Crossovers still standing went up. The other four went down.

Devens, Drew and Dee are the only three who gained. Angela, the other Crossover still loyal to the group, went up too, by 0.45, from the jury house. Barrett was a Crossover until he nominated all three Icons in Week 9, and he fell 0.40. Taylor and Melody, who sat on the block together on Monday, took the two biggest drops.

Last week every newbie in the house went down. This week Drew went up with the two Icons.

Saturday was Devens’ best day since July, and the worst of the season for Taylor and Melody

Daily average Wall rating out of ten for the final four, 10 to 23 September. Wall data through 23 September: 1,170 Week 11 ballots.

Devens peaked at 7.71 on Saturday 19 September, the day Drew won the veto, his highest day since 24 July. The same day Taylor dropped to 3.52 and Melody to 3.62, the lowest either has been all season.

Drew and Dee crossed on Monday, the day Melody left. Drew went above her for the first time since 6 September and finished the week at 5.30 on Wednesday, his best day since late July. Dee went the other way, from 5.76 on double eviction night to 4.28 by Wednesday.

Who is the most popular houseguest left?

Devens, by more than he has been all season. 66 percent of Week 11 ballots scored him 8 or higher, his highest share on the Wall, and only 19 percent scored him 1 or 2. Dee is the most evenly split of the final four: 38 percent rate her 8 or higher and 39 percent rate her 1 or 2. Drew is at 26 percent high and 37 percent low. Taylor is at 20 percent high and 45 percent low, in the week she won the final four Head of Household.

The Wall is not the America’s Favorite Houseguest vote, which CBS runs on its own, but on the Wall nobody left comes close to him.

And the audience kept shrinking

1,170 ballots is the lowest weekly total the Wall has recorded this season, below last week’s. Double eviction Thursday was the busiest day at 241, and the count fell on every day after that except Sunday, an episode night, which came in at 201. Wednesday drew 91.

Where Week 11 stands going into tonight

Drew holds the only vote, and his options are Dee and Devens. Dee’s case is that keeping her gives Drew two ways into the final two and keeping Devens gives him second place. Devens’ case is that he would take Drew to the end, and that Dee beats anyone sitting next to her. Taylor is backing Dee’s version and has said so to both of them.

Monday afternoon, if either of them had won the veto, Drew was the one going home. He has said his mind was made up before he won.

Three of the four have said the same thing. Dee told Drew he loses next to Devens, and Taylor told him the same. Drew answered Dee with: “Anybody will. We all lose next to Devens.” Devens is the only one of them who says it is Dee. On the Wall this week he had his best numbers since July.

Whoever Drew keeps joins him and Taylor in the final three, and Part 1 of the three-part Final Head of Household is played tonight.
