Big Brother 28 Week 7 in Review: The Target Changed and Nobody Was Told

Where the week left it

Dee won her second Head of Household, spent $5,000 to buy the one player hunting her, and put three people on the block. Six days later the man she paid is organising the group that wants to blindside her, the target she has been naming all week is not the target, and the only houseguest who still believes the Icons are telling him the truth is the one sitting on the block. Drew, Taylor and Mallory play the BB Blockbuster tonight. One comes off. Two face a vote that nobody in the house agrees on. How Week 6 ended with Devens spending the Diamond.

How Week 7 started: Dee bought a week for $5,000

Week 6 ended with Angela winning the Blockbuster out of the wind tunnel, Kamu evicted 9–1 with Lala the only vote the other way, and the feeds cut for the endurance comp from 8:52 PM to 11:10 PM. When they came back, Dee had her second HOH of the season. Alone with Devens she was already looking past the week: “we have to start thinking about who we want to take to the end also.”

By Friday morning she had a plan for the person she was most afraid of. Yash had spent two weeks refusing her, so at 10:11 AM she went bigger and attached a threat to it — “again, here’s the 5K, you cannot put any of us up for the next HOH that he wins,” and then, privately, “and if he says no, I’ll f—ing backdoor you.” He took it. The BB Bribe she had been carrying since Week 4 was gone, and it bought her exactly one week of protection.

The nominations, and the speech that saved Drew

The seat nobody expected was Drew’s. He had spent the previous week playing both sides and got caught doing it — in the HOH meeting he walked the room through it himself and answered his own question out loud: “and I’m sitting there going, like, sure. I want Dee out.” Barrett, of all people, told Dee to take the shot. By 1:50 PM she had stopped hedging.

Taylor, Drew and Lala went on the block. Then Drew did the thing that changed his week: he stood up and called himself “the biggest liar in this house.” Lala was not moved — “Drew is a f—ing bulls— liar. I hope he goes home. I hope he doesn’t slither out of it.” Dee was. Her verdict afterwards: “he f—ing redeemed himself, honestly.” Drew’s own read on the week ahead was simpler: “this week is just me being their bestie.”

Lala won the veto, and Mallory paid for it

Lala won the Power of Veto out of a field of Taylor, Drew, Lala and Angela, with Dee hosting, and used it on herself. “I don’t really care about people getting mad,” she said, “because that’s what we’re here for.”

That left Dee needing a name, and it is the decision the rest of the week hangs on. Drew asked to be the one replaced — he wanted Yash in the seat and said so directly, “give me the smoke, I want a Blockbuster.” He could not have it, because Yash’s seat had already cost $5,000. Dee had talked herself out of it alone with her lunch: “I can go back on my word and put Yash up. But why would I do that when I can just put Drew up?” So Mallory went up instead — a houseguest who had spent the week believing she was safe. “I really wanted to move forward with Mosh Pit,” she said later. “So I thought I was good this week.”

Brush-gate, sardines, and a threat to quit

Between the veto and the ceremony the house lost its mind in the ordinary way. Drew’s hairbrush went missing, and his response was a hostage negotiation: “I am taking one of everyone’s things, and it’s going to be a ransom.” Barrett’s bandana, Lala’s robe, Devens’ shirt, Haley’s red hoodie and Melody’s blue flannel were all listed as collateral. He and Dee then took a can of sardines to hide inside the Iron Maiden statue in the have-not room before he lost his nerve: “I don’t want everyone to hate me.”

Taylor had a worse weekend, falling out with Angela and then with Haley in the same afternoon, until Lala pulled her aside and delivered the line of the week: “the spotlight isn’t even on you at all! Sometimes you just need to shut your motherf—ing mouth!” And Melody, working out what happens if Haley takes the next HOH, reached for the nuclear option: “I don’t want to live in no f—ing jury house with Haley. And Haley doesn’t either. Dead ass, I’ll quit. I’m not even joking.”

The target changed on Tuesday, and nobody was told

Mallory went up to the HOH room on Tuesday afternoon to make peace, and it is the single worst thing she did all week. She spent half an hour clearing the air and asked the only question she came for: “I’m assuming that you want Taylor to be the one who goes?” Dee said yes — “that she’s my target, yes” — and hugged her at the door.

Ten minutes later Dee was alone with the camera: “her coming up to me doesn’t help the scenarios. Because the plan was that we need reasons to take her out. But she’s actually being very nice.” When Devens walked in she told him the opposite of what she had told Mallory — “in the best case scenario, Taylor wins, yes, and we send Mallory home” — and by 4:35 PM the two of them had agreed to do it without telling Drew and Barrett. Devens supplied the argument and the absolution in the same breath: “I think we blindside them and ask for forgiveness.”

What actually hardened it was not strategy. Dee spotted a group standing at the memory wall, decided one of them had pointed at her, and got angry: “yeah, your bestie’s not going to be here next week… no, f— it. That just made me mad. That’s blindside, though.” The public line never changed. Devens: “I’m going to keep riding with… that Taylor’s way. Until we change our mind about anything.”

Barrett turned on Wednesday

Dee slept on it and lost her nerve — “strategically, I get it, because Mallory could win. The feeling in me doesn’t feel like it’s the right thing to do” — so she and Devens built a softer version: put it to Drew and Barrett first, blindside them anyway if they refuse. They held that meeting, and Barrett told Dee to her face, in front of everyone, that he was angry. She spent the afternoon in the have-not room counting the cost of it: “I took all the heat. I took all the heat for the Red Corner.”

By then it had already leaked. Devens, pushing Yash on the vote, explained that Barrett being close to Mallory was a reason to cut her — “because he’s so close with Mallory, that’s more reason for me to get rid of her” — and Yash carried it straight to Barrett, prefaced with Devens’ own words: “and obviously, I know you’re not going to repeat it.” Barrett’s verdict: “Devens was right about them making me mad.”

By Wednesday evening he had said the thing he and Drew agreed they could never say. In the bathroom, to Melody and Mallory: “me and Drew have been working with the Icons since pretty much the beginning of this game. And y’all can put that together.” Mallory: “I figured you guys were.” Melody’s anger went at Drew instead: “the audacity to f—ing lie to my face… and then you’re going to sit here and act like we’re friends. Literally, f— you.”

Fourteen minutes before that, Barrett and Yash had counted a five. The detonator was Drew: Barrett said he had been told Drew would vote Mallory out if he wins the Blockbuster, to stay in with the Icons. Yash did the arithmetic on the spot — “it would be me, you, Mallory, Melody, Lala. We keep Taylor and we blindside the Icons” — and Barrett looked at the week after: “we go into next week with the Icons and Haley versus the six of us. And Dee can’t play.”

The twist has nothing left

All six BB Time Capsule trips are done. The Diamond Power of Veto went off in Week 6 and the houseguest it put on the block is gone. The Bribe went off this week and bought the Icons the one player who had been hunting them — and by Wednesday afternoon they were counting his vote in a plan he knows nothing about. The only power still live is Drew’s Never Not Pass, which keeps him off slop and does nothing else. Drew is on the block.

Where Week 7 stands going into tonight

On the block: Drew, Taylor and Mallory. Eleven houseguests left. One of the three saves themselves in the Blockbuster; the other two face the vote.

The target the house has been given: Taylor. The target in the HOH room: Mallory. Devens, plainly: “I think Mallory has to go. That’s the main thing. Mallory would put us up. She’s a better competitor than Taylor.”

If Taylor comes off: it is Drew versus Mallory, and that is the vote the Icons cannot control. Barrett and Yash have both said privately they keep Mallory, and Barrett is fine with the fallout: “I think the Icons are gonna be like, what the f—. Which is fine. And it could be fun, actually.”

If Drew comes off: it is Taylor versus Mallory, and Mallory is in real trouble. Yash concedes it himself: “if Drew wins, I think Mallory goes. Which is f—ing ass. Drew cannot win.”

If Mallory comes off: the Icons have burned two allies for nothing, and Drew and Taylor go to a vote that a five-person bloc now controls.

Haley is the vote everyone is chasing: she has told Dee one thing and Barrett another, and her own line to campaigners is “I don’t have an obligation to anybody.” Dee’s private read: “Haley is easily manipulated.” Barrett’s: “she’s telling Dee she would vote out you over Taylor.”

Dee only votes in a tie, and she does not want to: “I’m not voting this week unless it’s a tiebreaker… I’m done, all you f—ers figure it out, and when I have to break a tie I don’t give a f—.”

What it sets up: Barrett has already run the next Head of Household as “a 6v4… or like a 6v3, because D can’t play,” and he and Drew floated a double eviction last week as the moment to finally move on Devens. Whoever leaves tonight, the house goes into next week split six to four — and one side does not know it yet.

Angela, for her part, has already started saying goodbye — “I have a heart for Mallory, but we will be friends outside of this”.

What the Wall says about Week 7

Readers rate every houseguest out of ten on the OBB Wall, every day. Week 7 drew 1,691 ballots, and the pattern in them is blunt: the audience spent this week marking down almost everybody. Nine of the eleven remaining houseguests finished the week lower than they started it.

Season favourite
60%
of Week 7 ballots score Devens 8 or higher. Nobody else clears 45 percent.
Season low
3.85
Drew on 25 August, his worst day of the season. He opened at 6.37.
Biggest faller
-0.85
Mallory, Week 6 to Week 7. The steepest drop of anyone left in the house.
Busiest day
293
ballots on 21 August, nomination day. A normal day runs about 180.

Drew has been falling since day one

3 4 5 6 7 8 WEEK 7 Drew Mallory Taylor Devens Drew 4.2 Mallory 5.8 Taylor 4.2 Devens 6.8 Jul 23 Aug 6 Aug 20 Aug 26

Daily average Wall rating out of ten, 23 July to 26 August. Week 7 begins at the dashed line.

Drew is the clearest line on the board and it only goes one way. He was the third-highest rated houseguest in the house on 23 July at 6.37. He has not been above 5.25 since 10 August, and on 25 August he hit 3.85, the lowest number he has recorded all season. The “biggest liar in this house” speech bought him the room. It did not buy him the audience.

Mallory is the week’s steepest faller, down 0.85 from her Week 6 average, and the shape of it matters: she peaked at 6.90 on 12 August and has been sliding since the veto ceremony put her on the block. She is still the third-best rated houseguest left. Devens has simply never moved. He has finished every single day of the season between 6.46 and 7.73, which on a rating this volatile is remarkable, and he did it while spending the Diamond and running the blindside.

Only two houseguests went up in Week 7, and they are the two the house does not rate: Angela, up 0.61, and Haley, up 0.40. Both are climbing off a low floor. Everyone else went down, including Dee, who has slipped from 6.26 to 5.84 across the week she spent taking all the heat.

Who the audience loves, and who it cannot stand

Scored 1-2 Scored 8-10 Devens 23% 60% Dee 32% 45% Mallory 23% 34% Melody 25% 23% Barrett 30% 27% Yash 40% 21% Drew 39% 19% Angela 44% 19% Taylor 45% 19% Lala 54% 12% Haley 55% 10%

Share of Week 7 ballots scoring each houseguest 8 or above, against the share scoring them 2 or below.

Averages hide how split the audience is. Only three houseguests are net positive: Devens by a distance, then Dee, then Mallory. Barrett and Melody sit almost exactly on the line, which is a fair description of where both of them are playing. Below that it gets ugly fast: 45 percent of ballots put Taylor at 2 or below, 54 percent do it to Lala, and 55 percent to Haley. On the three names on the block tonight, the audience is not conflicted about Taylor at all, and it is genuinely divided about Mallory.

The audience has split into the same factions as the house

The ballots are per-voter, so it is possible to ask which houseguests get rated highly by the same people. The answer is a map of the season, and it lines up with the game almost exactly.

Rated together, strongest first: Devens and Dee, far ahead of everything else. Then Taylor and Lala. Then Yash with Taylor, and Yash with Lala. Then Mallory and Melody. Dee also travels with Angela and with Barrett.

Rated against each other: Dee against Yash is the sharpest opposition on the board, then Devens against Yash, Devens against Lala, and Dee against Mallory. If you like the Icons you do not like Yash, and the reverse holds just as hard.

What it means for tonight: the audience has sorted itself into Icons and anti-Icons, and Barrett sits on the Icons side of that map while spending his week building the group that wants to blow them up. The one houseguest whose fans overlap with nobody in particular is Drew.

Wall data through 26 August: 1,691 Week 7 ballots. Ratings are the daily mean of every score submitted, out of ten. Vote and rate the houseguests yourself at the bottom of any OBB post.

BB Blockbuster Results

Drew, Taylor and Mallory play. The winner takes themselves off the block and cannot be voted out tonight. House rumour all week has been the rope comp, which Dee was openly hoping for: “Taylor’s not going to get herself out of the rope.” Results and photos will be added here as soon as the feeds show them.

Who was evicted in Big Brother 28 Week 7?

Vote-by-vote results will be posted here after the live show. Keep an eye on today’s Big Brother spoilers for everything as it happens.

Opinion Overload

The problem Dee and Devens may be missing with Barrett is that he hides behind the quiet, nice-guy image. He’s introverted, and happy letting everyone think he’s harmless, while quietly keeping relationships on multiple sides. By the time people realize he’s been playing his own game, its too late. On a sidenote – Is is just me, or is he kind of creepy with the gals?

Gizmo

I think he’s socially awkward a bit.

Block Buster Preview:
the nominees run to the back of the room behind a wall. clue one is on the screen for thirty seconds.
the nominees run to the center room with the main screen to see about 150 to 300 clips from previous bb seasons split in columns A B and C.
the nominees run back behind the wall for clue 2 and repeat. Clue 3.
they then run back to the podiums to lock in their answers.

Of note: once the first person locks in an answer, that answer is off the board. meaning second and third person have to choose between the other 2 options.
So. if the first person runs back and pushes b… nobody else can choose b.

Who did well in the closest comparison comp:
Drew threw to Devens, Taylor lost to Dee and Mallory lost to Melody (the Yash HOH comp is the closest to this one).

Gizmo

Who will win blockbuster tonight?!?!
And who goes home?!
This one is definitely a game changer.

Moaning murtle

Mallory will .No question about it! She is far better, faster, smarter than Drew and Taylor.

Gizmo

I hope so too but it’s nerve racking lol
