Zingbot is a real person inside a robot costume, but the performer in the suit is not the voice. The costumed performer moves and reacts inside the Big Brother house while Zingbot’s recorded voice and insults play over the house speakers. Big Brother has never publicly identified the person regularly inside the costume, and CBS has never officially credited the voice actor or actors behind Zingbot.

Is Zingbot a Real Person or a Robot?
Zingbot is a human performer inside a robot costume, not an animatronic robot. The person wearing the suit moves and reacts in front of the houseguests, while Zingbot’s voice and zings are played separately over the Big Brother house speakers.
Who Is Inside the Zingbot Costume?
The short answer
Zingbot is a person inside a robot costume, but Big Brother has never publicly identified a regular performer who plays him.
The person in the costume does not deliver the zings. The performer moves and mimes while the voice plays separately through the house speakers.
So, yes: Zingbot is a real person in a costume. The robot standing in front of the houseguests is a costumed performer rather than an animatronic robot. The identity of the person wearing the suit has not normally been disclosed.
There has been one unusual glimpse behind the costume. Britney said that during Big Brother 14 the performer inside Zingbot collapsed during the outdoor shoot and was revealed to be a woman. That establishes something important about how the character works, but it does not establish that the same performer has played Zingbot in other seasons.
Who Voices Zingbot on Big Brother?
The short answer
CBS has never officially credited a Zingbot voice actor.
The voice and the person inside the costume are separate roles, and people who have worked on Big Brother have said more than one person has provided the voice over the years.
The two roles are easy to confuse. The performer wearing Zingbot is silent. The mechanical voice and the insults are heard through the Big Brother house speakers while the person in the suit moves along with them.
Two familiar Big Brother voices have specifically said they are not Zingbot. Don Wollman provides the voice heard speaking to the houseguests inside the house, while Clayton Halsey has been the show’s announcer. When both were asked about Zingbot in 2016, Wollman said the performer inside the suit was not the person doing the voice, and Halsey said there had been “two or three” different Zingbot voice actors by that point.
That leaves the honest answer: the Zingbot voice has apparently been provided by multiple people, but CBS has never publicly established a complete credited list.
What Is Zingbot on Big Brother?
Zingbot is Big Brother’s recurring insult robot. He enters the house, gathers the houseguests and gives each of them a personalised roast known as a “zing.” He debuted as Zingbot 3000 during Big Brother 12 in 2010 and was upgraded to Zingbot 9000 during Big Brother 17.
For much of his run, the visit also introduced a Power of Veto competition built around Zingbot. Other seasons have used him only for the roast, and the character has developed his own running storyline involving upgrades, family, elections and other increasingly ridiculous disasters.
The short answer
Nobody has ever been officially identified as the voice of Zingbot.
CBS does not credit the role, and the performer inside the costume is not delivering the lines. At least one person associated with the show has said the voice has changed over the years.
Nobody knows, and that appears to be deliberate. CBS has never credited the voice. There is no end-credit listing, no IMDb entry, no union or guild record naming a performer attached to the character.
What we do know changes the question. The person inside the suit isn’t the voice. They mime — swaying in the costume, silent — while the zings play through the house’s loudspeaker system. Houseguests who’ve stood there have described how strange it is: the robot in front of you isn’t talking, the voice is coming from the ceiling.
Two names come up constantly and both are wrong. Don Wollman is the voice of “Big Brother” inside the house — the one who calls houseguests to the Diary Room. Clayton Halsey is the show’s announcer. In a 2016 interview both men confirmed neither of them is Zingbot, and Halsey added that there had been “two or three” different Zingbot voice actors over the years. He didn’t name any of them.
So the honest answer, sixteen years in, is that Zingbot has been voiced by several unidentified people, and CBS has never said who.
Britney Haynes, who was in the house for Zingbot’s debut season and returned for Big Brother 14, said years later on a podcast that the performer inside the Big Brother 14 suit collapsed during the shoot, and that the performer was a woman. It’s the only detail anyone has ever offered about the person in the costume, and it’s a reminder that the suit is worn under studio lights in a Los Angeles August.
The Debut: Big Brother 12, 2010
August 18, 2010. Day 43. The houseguests were called out and a blue robot was standing there. On the live feeds the reaction was instant — the comment threads that night are just people typing variations of “what is happening.”
He introduced himself as Zingbot 3000, worked through the house one by one, then hosted the Power of Veto. And the question that has followed him ever since was being asked within minutes of his first appearance: who’s in the suit? Somebody in the feed chat that night guessed it was Annie, the houseguest who’d been evicted first. It wasn’t.
Zingbot’s first day
August 18, 2010: House debut, first zings and Power of Veto appearance.
September 15, 2010: He returned for the Big Brother 12 finale, sitting in the studio audience.
The Zings
The insults are the part everybody remembers. Below are some of the zings preserved from Zingbot’s run, beginning with the first batch delivered to the Big Brother 12 house.
Big Brother 12 · 2010 The first zings ever delivered

“Hey Jordan, the only reason Jeff hasn’t proposed yet is because he knows you’re terrible at answering questions.”
“Daniele, do you own a car? Or do you still prefer to just ride your daddy’s coattails?”
Big Brother 16 · 2014 The broken Zingbot
The season he arrived broken. These are the ones he managed once he was working again.
“Frankie, that’s a nice tan. But I’m surprised you get any sun at all, considering how much time you spend in… your sister’s shadow! GRANDE ZING!”
“Cody, you’re such a nice guy. You haven’t made any enemies this summer… except for maybe… Christine’s husband! ZINGGGG! ZING ZING ZING!”

“Liz, I’m confused. Suddenly you’re less attractive, less intelligent, and less charming… oh wait, that’s just… Julia. ZING!”
“James, guess what. I’ve heard Meg is going to take you someplace very, very special after the show… the Friend Zone! OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE ZING!”
“Vanessa, you have been playing a masterful game. Assuming that game is… the crying game! ZING!”
“Meg, your New York attitude is very Sex and the City. Too bad your game play is more Sucks and the City! ZING!”
“Steve, what’s less cool than a trombonist who cries for his mommy? NOTHING! ZING!”
“John, 5/5 dentists agree. The only thing less attractive than your laugh is your… back hair! ZING!”
Big Brother 18 · 2016 Zingbot for President
“Corey, what do you call the man who sweeps Nicole off her feet, sends her heart a flutter, and makes her hear wedding bells?… Hayden! ZING! ZING! WEDDING BELL ZING!”
The Zingbot Story
Zingbot has an ongoing storyline, which is not something most people notice until it’s laid out. Over sixteen years he has got married, had a child, broken down, been rebuilt, been upgraded, become single again, run for president, won, been imprisoned, been merged with another character entirely, and been attacked.
Every Zingbot Appearance
Where the house visit and the broadcast fell on different days, both are given — feed watchers always see him first.
Big Brother 1 through 11 had no Zingbot. He has appeared in every completed season since his debut.
When the Zings Land Wrong
The segment is played for laughs, but the houseguests are sixty days into isolation with no way to answer back, and it doesn’t always go down as comedy.
Kathy Griffin, standing in for the broken robot, zinged Zach for wearing pink and cuddling with the men. Frankie thought it was aimed at him. Griffin walked over to Zach and added, unscripted: “Zing, motherf—er, zing.”
Sam appeared genuinely hurt after being called “real f—ing crazy,” and the rest of the house nervously hid behind the kitchen counter. JC snapped “That wasn’t funny!” after a joke about his back hair. Brett was visibly stung at being called a douche.
Weeks later, Nicole was still using it as a benchmark: “I haven’t cried since Zingbot.”
Turner had no time for any of it. “Not to sound like an uncultured Big Brother fan but every time Zingbot comes on I skip it because I think it’s so f—ing dumb, I’m sorry.”
A zing exposed the boundaries of the showmance between Vince and Morgan and set off a house-wide blowup on the feeds, with Morgan furious at the other houseguests for discussing it afterwards.
ZING! as a House Weapon
The most durable thing Zingbot has given the show isn’t the robot. It’s the format. Fifteen years on, houseguests still use “ZING” as cover for saying something cruel.
It started almost immediately. In Big Brother 12, days after the debut, Ragan was doing the voice at Matt on the feeds — and it got dark enough that this site was still writing about it a week later. Our own take at the time: “I like the zingbot. I don’t like the hours of ‘ZIIIING’ the houseguests tend to do on the feeds. Ragan, Brendon, Dani, being the worst offenders.”
Big Brother 15, mid-argument, Amanda turned on Elissa in the kitchen: “what does Zingbot and Elissa both have in common, they are both made of Plastic… ZING.”
And it’s still going. Big Brother 27, September 2025 — Kelley landed a shot at Vince about his best friend and his supposed girlfriend, then covered herself with “Zingbot said. Not me,” and ran off.
Zingbot Outside the House
Comic-Con, 2011
CBS sent Zingbot to San Diego Comic-Con in July 2011, where he posed with fans at the network’s booth and handed out Big Brother buttons. He had a Twitter account, and its last known message before the following summer read: “I’m back bitchbots… come meet me at #comicCon this Sunday at the @CBS booth.”
A props room on SyFy
In 2012 we spotted what appeared to be Zingbot 3000 sitting in the back of a props room on the SyFy series Hollywood Treasures — season two, episode six. Power cells drained, no sass left in the voice modulator. It remains the only time the character has turned up on another network’s show, and it briefly had us wondering whether he was finished. He was not. He was back that August.
Merchandise
The official Paramount shop has sold a Zingbot 3000 sherpa blanket, Zingbot 9000 socks, and a Zingbot charm. Fan artists have built a small economy of their own around him — 3D-printed figures, shirts, keychains, stickers.
He has never appeared on Big Brother Canada, Celebrity Big Brother, Big Brother: Over the Top, or any international edition of the show. Several of the competitions he hosted have been exported — Hide and Go Veto, Yankee Swap and Slippery Slope have all been played in other countries — but the robot stayed home.
