Why did Big Brother Canada 8 end early?

Because of the pandemic. On 24 March 2020, Global and the show’s production company announced: “In light of developments in Ontario on the fight against COVID-19, effective today Big Brother Canada Season 8 has ended production.” The twelve houseguests still in the game were sent home to self-quarantine for 14 days.

Two closing episodes aired on 25 March and 1 April. The second confirmed that the $100,000 prize would go to COVID-19 relief instead of a winner. Host Arisa Cox: “Big Brother Canada is a labour of love for so many, and even though it hurts to say goodbye to the season, it’s the right thing to do.”

Who was in the Big Brother Canada 8 cast?

Sixteen houseguests moved in. Four were gone before the shutdown:

  • Nico. Quit on Day 5, in the premiere week.
  • Micheal. The only houseguest voted out, 9–3 on Day 13.
  • Jamar. Expelled on Day 17 after threatening Kyle during a house meeting he had called.
  • Kyle. Expelled two days later, on Day 19, for what production called “a pattern of problematic behavior”.

Twelve were still in the house when the season ended: Angie, Brooke, Carol, Chris, Hira, John Luke, Maddy, Minh-Ly, Ri, Sheldon, Susanne and Vanessa. Chris won Head of Household in week 2, and Sheldon won it twice in week 3, the second time after the reset. Hira won the veto twice and Maddy once. Carol talked about quitting more than once.

What was the twist in Big Brother Canada 8?

Save Your Superhero. Canada voted on which houseguests would be safe from the first eviction. The season was billed as supersized, with a two-night premiere on 4 and 5 March.

What is Big Brother Canada 8 remembered for?

As the only Big Brother Canada season with no winner, and for how much went wrong before the pandemic ended it. A houseguest quit in the premiere week, and two more were expelled within three days of each other. Kyle’s expulsion came after viewers criticised production on social media for enforcing the rules unevenly, and the house’s competitions were reset afterwards. OBB’s week-3 round-up summed up the state of the house in its headline: 1 quit, 2 expelled, 1 evicted, 1 wants to quit.
