..Everyone loves the summer Olympics over winter… Not me!
Gimme the bobsled, luge, ski jumping, downhill racing, speed skating, anyday… Hell, I’ll watch curling over a marathon any day, Ski jumping over shot put, Hockey over the overblown American Basketball team, anyday.
 
The most popular sport in both summer and winter games, has athletes between the ages of 10- 14, who are launched through the air, while doing impossible spins, flips and midair summer salts, and once the athelets grow boobs, their career is done. And I could give a shit about figure skating or womens gymnastics.
 
Where else is there a sport that the athletes ski for miles, yet have to stop, lay down, pull out their rifles and shoot targets ten times along the course? Ok, true…. the marathon runners had to do the same in LA, but that was their own choice, even if it was self defense.
 
Anyhow, I love the winter olympics and always wanted to do the luge.
I got to surf instead…. not a bad trade off. No cheering crowds or gold medals. But when you are inside a barrel of a 20+ ft wave, you don’t need that shit to know what you did was spectacular, well…
 
Anyhow, I hope politics stays the fuck out of the Olympics for a long while. I am talking about the Boycotting of the games bullshit we pulled in ‘80 and then Russia paid us back with in ‘84. The only ones it fucked was the athletes that never got to participate, because that was their window of opportunity…. like a couple guys I know, whos lives would be very different, had we not boycotted.
 
Cheers to the “Eddie the Eagles”, the Jamacian Bobsledders, The Agony of Defeaters… because we all love a heartwarming story, the outrageous dream and tenacity of some of these guys, and then it all becomes real and they crash and burn because they have no idea what the fuck they are doing! Cheers! For having the balls to do, only what we talk about doing (when we’re drunk.)
 
I’ll be in front of my TV for about a week and a half more, thank you.
